The Baltimore Improv Group (BIG) is a 501(3)(c) non-profit group dedicated to advancing the art of improvisational theater in the greater Baltimore area through public performances and classes. The group usually produces 1-2 improv shows each month and also performs at fundraising events for local charities, engages in outreach in public and private schools, and is for hire for training and shows for corporate events.
BIG sponsors several house troupes: Population: Six, The Moving Walkways, Plan B, and Gus. We also sponsor special projects from time to time such as Mister Licorice, Evan the Loyal, and 2008’s improvised play “Unscripted.” We also sponsor a student troupe list open to anyone interested in improv.
Besides various venues in Baltimore, we have performed in Boston, at Baltimore's ArtScape festival, the Chicago Improv Festival, the Dirty South Improv Festival, the DC Comedy Festival, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and have been reviewed in the Baltimore Sun and Style magazine.
Improvised theater means there is no script. The actors create characters, locations, actions, and dialog based entirely on audience suggestions.
